In this book, the author Chopra provides an outline to discovering the potential leader from within. He explains how self-input and the core values mentioned in this book will help to emerge your potential for greatness. Chopra addresses the desirable tools and activities in becoming a leader with a vision and how its manifestation allows one to become a kind of leader whose presence is lacking in today’s society.

The Soul of Leadership expresses the ideal and importance of identifying, nurturing and actively launching the potential that resides within to being or becoming a great leader. Chopra uses the acronym L-E-A-D-E-R-S to pilot you along the vital steps to discovering the leader and its greatness from within; thus meaning the soul. The author also addresses two key people in history by inviting you into their lives of how they exemplify and obtained the mark of leadership. Those two individuals are Jeremy Moon, Founder and CEO of Icebreaker, and Renata M. Black, Founding and Director of Seven Bar foundation.

Ten principles of awareness are address to allow readers to maintain and continue to walk in the essence of true leadership being effective and efficient leaders. Chopra believes once the connection is clearly identified, then you as a leader can possess vital qualities all leaders should have: creativity, intelligence, organizing power, and love.

The L in leaders represents look and listen. This chapter explains the need for one who’s leading to reach within and proclaim the vision at hand while also possessing the ability to manifest the vision. The next two letters, E (emotional bond) and A (awareness), are the ability to allow emotional bonding when developing relationships with those who follow as well as setting awareness for all the possibilities (opportunities and options) on the journey to becoming a great leader. The action of Doing plays an important role when leading. As the book mentions, this skill starts with walking the walk, talking the talk, energizing others around you and making them a part of your mission. E stands for Empowerment. Chopra states this as the fruit of successful actions, which aligns with doing and having access to power, so that you can precede the vision. Responsibility deals with being concerned about the needs and personal growth of those who follow as a whole factor. Lastly, having the ability to link to infinite power, which is considered God. This applies to any event in time and this refers to Synchronicity.

Chopra shares ten principles of awareness which include:

  1. leaders and followers co-creating each
  2. individual growth which starts with the internal and external of self
  3. internal actions expressed as a result
  4. allowing the soul to express the responses of leaders and those who follow
  5. the design of a need and the leaders’ awareness in order to predict future outcomes
  6. leaders play a vital role in handling the need of those whose follow, which means being able to tap into the followers inner most thoughts
  7. leaders must fully address and understand the needs of hierarchy, and be able to give successful responses
  8. being able to ascend utilizing ideas from principle seven, while accomplishing inspiration and unity
  9. reminds leaders to lead from within, the soul, through a supply of trust, stability, compassion and hope
  10. be the source of bringing order into play among all that is accomplished

In closing, The Soul of Leadership specifically encourages one to evaluate and empower self in order to truly and effectively lead others. I agree that the essence of this has the capability to profit all individuals including religious groups, educational programs, and businesses. This book could be used to help performance surveillance for internal personnel with companies. Mentoring programs would benefit in using this as a tool for training ad their mentees. Overall, the knowledge gained through reading The Soul of Leadership, can be essential to one re-defining self.
